Policy Statement 1
General Rules of Behavior and Conduct
It is the stated policy of the Hammersmith company that all personnel will ensure that they conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the best attitude towards safety and their working environment. The Company will not tolerate the disregard for safe working practices, personal safety and the safety of others. All employees will conduct themselves in a professional manner, take care and responsibility for themselves, their working environment, their issued personal protection equipment (ppe), fellow workers, and the Client, the Companies and fellow employee’s assets.
Should individual operatives disregard the stated policy the following actions will be applicable:
Operatives will be dismissed from Site, and suspended from that Site until they fulfill the requirements, if:
- They present themselves for work without the minimum required personal protection equipment for that Site, i.e. Helmet, safety shoes, long trousers (depending on requirements).
- Fail to present ID card (either personal, Company or Client issue).
- In the opinion of their direct Supervisor / Foreman appear to be intoxicated.
- Fail to present for work on three consecutive shifts, without prior notice to Supervisor / Foreman.
Operatives will be suspended from Site and be required to undergo retraining if:
- By accident or neglect of safe practices create an environmental or safety hazard.
- Commit a foolish and deliberate act which could create an environmental or safety hazard.
- Undertake pr do works outside acceptable safe working practices.
- Fail to act responsibility or provide assistance in the event of an accident.
- Fail to report an unsafe incident or accident.
Operatives will be dismissed if:
- They are found stealing.
- They are found under the influence of drugs.
- They are found fighting on the Job Site.
- They are found smoking outside allotted areas.
- They commit a deliberate act which creates an environmental or safety hazard.
Policy Statement 2
Emergency Procedures
- Classification
The classification of the level of and type of incident is fundamental to the required response. Based on the classification of a particular incident the correct response can be made and the correct procedures be followed.
Incidents are classified as follows:
- Fatality
- Lost Time Accident.
- Restricted Work Case.
- Medical Treatment.
- Dangerous Occurrence.
- Property Damage.
- Reporting
All incidents will be reported.
- All incidents will be recorded in the Site Diary.
- The severity of the incident will determine to whom reports are made.
- The minimum level of reporting for minor incidents will be to Supervisor / Foreman level. Notification to Senior Management and the Clients representative will be made in writing.
- In the case of a serious incident or fatality immediate notice to Head Office, the Client and the emergency services will be made by phone.
- First Aid
The provision and administration of first aid is the responsibility of all operatives. The provision of immediate assistance until trained personnel arrives is expected of all operatives.
- Before entering accident area make sure that no further risk of injury exists.
- If a designated first aider is available call him / her immediately.
- Dispatch someone to get help / assistance.
- Do not move the injured person unless he / she is in danger.
- Attempt to stop blood loss.
- Protect the injured party from additional injury and make as comfortable as possible.
Policy Statement 3
Employment and Training
- New Employee Requirements.
All prospective new employees must provide the following:
- A copy of acceptable identification, i.e. house papers, military exception certificate, passport, permit to enter, immigration papers or birth certificate.
- 4 passport photographs.
All new Employees will be issued with a Hammersmith Ltd., employee ID card, they will be required to carry this at all times.
Training.
- New Employee Induction and Training Requirements.
- Any evidence of previously safety induction and training will be recognized but will not exempt new Employees from attending Company training.
- Formal pre-start safe working practices training will comprise of the issuing of, and introduction to, standard issue personal protection equipment and an explanation of the Company policy with regard to safety and working environment.
- All new Employees will be given brief training in emergency first aid, one new Employee in every 6 will be selected for further first aid training.
- An introduction to the safe use and handling of epoxies, polyurethane and solvents will be given.
As a policy, new Employees are introduced to new materials and equipment over time. The promotion of new skills and training in the use of specific repair techniques is given on a merit basis, as required.
- Existing Employees Induction and Training Requirements.
- Employees transferring from one Project Site to another must still go trough Site induction, regardless of work type similarities.
- Employees returning to a Site where work has been performed previously must still go trough site induction, regardless of the validity of passes, permits to work, etc.
- Returning workers are required to attend “tool box” briefing, in particular new escape routes, or warning procedure prior to their commencement on Site.
- Client Induction and Training Requirements.
- The attendance and successful completion of any and all of a Clients Induction and Training requirements is compulsory.
Policy Statement 4
Environmental Responsibility.
- Waste Disposal.
- Under no circumstances will any waste materials be disposed of in an unapproved manner.
- No waste water contaminated with cement or chemicals must be allowed to enter storm water drainage systems, toilets or hand basin.
- No waste materials shall be burnt.
- No waste materials shall be dumped in rivers, klongs, ponds or the sea.
- No waste shall be tipped in non-approved locations.
- All waste will be removed immediately to a central holding area for proper disposal.
- Re-cycling or scrap collection is only permissible under strict approval from the Client.
- Environmental Procedures.
- Always refer to the method statement for protection an containment procedures.
- Erect protective screens and hoardings.
- Use water to control dust when carrying our concrete and cutting demolition.
- Chemicals and solvents used for cleaning must be kept in sealable containers out of direct sunlight.
- Rags, brushes, rollers, etc. contaminated with chemicals must be stored in drums at Site.
- Use toilets and washing facilities provided.
- Environmental Awareness.
- Turn-off all lights and electrical equipment when not required (this included Air-conditioning).
- Find ways to reduce water consumption and implement – conserve water.
- Find ways to reduce dust contamination and implement.
- Find ways to reduce noise and implement.
